Fibersail
As wind turbine blades get longer, their failure rate is increasing. Critical damages often occur on the inside of the blade. These are hard to detect and can propagate fast. Fibersail technology delivers remote damage detection as soon as an internal structural damage occurs. Structural health data is shared through a dashboard, which provides wind farm operators crucial information to plan inspections more efficiently. It prevents damage propagation, minimising the risk of blade failures. Fibersail detects blade deflections and natural frequency variations through their fiber-optic shape sensor, mounted inside the blade. The dutch-Portuguese company is operating on onshore windfarms across Europe and recently won the Innovations Award at the Offshore Energy conference in Amsterdam.
