Somsubhro Chaudhuri

Scientific Staff, BAM

Somsubhro is a postdoctoral researcher at BAM, Germany. BAM is a federal institute for material research and testing in Germany, and Somsubhro specifically works in the division – 8.3 Thermographic Methods – within the Non-destructive Testing department for the past 3 years. His role at BAM comprises of implementing and evaluating infrared thermography as a non-destructive contactless inspection tool for various applications, with a focus on wind turbine rotor blades. This involves developing hardware used in the field for inspection, processing the thermographic data, and investigating the limitations of such inspections.

Prior to BAM, Somsubhro worked for Universiteit Gent, Belgium focussing on projects which involved the implementation of a range of non-destructive techniques to investigate the structural integrity of a wide-range of application fields: Gas and hydrogen pipelines, and off-shore wind turbine monopile tower structures.

Somsubhro holds a PhD in Materials Engineering and an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southampton, UK.
